Giving From The Heart this Christmas

You can make a difference in the life of a Ugandan Senior

ROTOM's 2011 Year-End Giving appeal:

ROTOM HEALTH CENTER MUKONO:

 A gift to advance construction of the ROTOM Health Center in Mukono. More than $20,000 is still needed to complete the next phase of this facility that will greatly increase seniors’ access to health care.

BECOME A SPONSOR TO A SENIOR IN UGANDA:

 A monthly gift of $30 to sponsor a senior. Sponsorship provides nutritious food, health services, visits from ROTOM staff, and more. 

SOLAR LANTERNS FOR CHRISTMAS:

-90% of Ugandans don't have access to electricity
-Among those 90% are poor older persons
-Most of them use kerosene candle
-These candles cause health and safety risks (dangerous fumes and risk of fire)
-Many lack the income to regularly buy kerosene
 
On the other hand:
-Solar lanterns can be charged by sunlight to provide power.
-No need to spend money

      Uganda has no universal social security system for older persons.
      Over one million seniors in Uganda live in poverty, loneliness, isolation and hopelessness.
      Due to poverty, rural urban migration, conflict, illness, death of the middle generation, the social structure of children taking care of their parents in old age has collapsed.
      Older persons are among the poorest in Uganda with 64% of them living on less than US$ 1 per day.
